SOMALIA (Dec. 22, 2020) – U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Ross Roby, a UH-1Y Venom crew chief with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, fires a Gun Aircraft Unit-17 machine gun from a UH-1Y Venom during a live-fire close-air support training event. The UH-1Y Venoms provide close-air support to Operation Octave Quartz in Somalia. The mission of OOQ is to relocate U.S. Department of Defense forces in Somalia to other East Africa operating locations while maintaining pressure on violent extremists and supporting partner forces.
