VMAQ-2 Transits Souda Bay

Souda Bay, Crete, Greece (Jul. 17, 2007) --

An EA-6B Prowler assigned to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron (VMAQ-2) takes off following a transient stopover on Greeces largest island. VMAQ-2 deployed from its home base of Cherry Point, North Carolina earlier this month and is attached to Marine Aircraft Group 14 (MAG 14), 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (2nd MAW). The mission of VMAQ-2 is to support the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Commander by conducting airborne electronic warfare, day or night, under all weather conditions, during expeditionary, joint, or combined operations.

The Prowler protects friendly aircraft from radar detection and hostile fire. It accomplishes its unique mission by jamming enemy radar and deploying high-speed, anti-radiation missiles. In addition, the Prowler collects and disseminates tactical electronic signals from the battlefield.
