Oakley Cabin - Maryland Emancipation Day Celebration
Maryland Emancipation Day was first celebrated on November 4, 1864. It marked the change in the Maryland State Congress to free all enslaved people from their bondage. Join us on Saturday, November 1 for free guided tours of Oakley Cabin.
Enjoy live music featuring jazz artists, Linda D. Harris and David Cole. Renowned storyteller Sheila Arnold, as she presents the life and labor of the Washer Woman through interactive storytelling, hands-on activities and open conversation. Ms. Arnold is presented in partnership with Story Tapestries. Guided tours of historic Oakley Cabin which was the heart of an African American community from Emancipation through the early 20th century. An augmented reality experience offers visitors an innovative look at that history.
FREE PARKING at 19801 Georgia Ave, Brookeville, MD with shuttle service provided throughout the day.
