Soft
First post from a handful of new images shot during a recent swing through Utah, Death Valley, and the eastern Sierra. The morning we spent on the Mesquite Dunes was, for me at least, the most enjoyable and productive of the trip. Shooting dunes is always so stimulating because it’s a bit like working with a blank canvas. Compositional possibilities exist everywhere but it remains up to us as photographers to arrange and create a cohesive whole out of all those lines, layers, textures, shadow & light displayed before us. It’s this continual search for “what’s out there” which makes photographing areas like dunes so interesting. As for this image, it started as a “snap” (taken well before sunup) meant more to read how twilight light was being rendered by the sensor than anything else. As soon as the first cool toned & overexposed image appeared on the LCD I knew an image existed out there. This idea quickly morphed into the silvery/ blue high-key image you see attached to this post. I’ve also uploaded five or so other images from the trip to to the new release gallery of my website.
