Bref résumé de la Notice : L'art minimaliste a été ainsi défini par Donald Judd en 1965 "Il n'y a plus ni peinture ni sculpture mais des objets situés dans l'espace réel du spectateur".
Les quatre boites superposées par deux sont inscrites dans un carré au centre duquel l'espace laissé libre prend la forme d'une croix. L'intérieur de chaque caisson est occupé par des panneaux en contre-plaqué dont le nombre et la position offrent différents points de vue. Yellow Wallpiece constitue un tout dans l'espace dont chaque élément préserve son autonomie.
L'Art de la Notice explicative a remplacé l'art de peindre !
Le commentaire du guide du musée est encore plus brillant.
"Judd invite à percevoir les relations entre les différents éléments (notions de sérialité, de variations, de combinatoire)...."
Le livre laisse aussi parler l'auteur : "mon travail est à tort considéré comme objectif et impersonnel". Bien sûr c'est un artiste incompris ! "Je m'intéresse d'abord et surtout à la relation que je peux avoir avec le monde de la nature, tout entier et sous toutes ses formes. Cet intérêt - un intérêt profond- inclut aussi bien ma propre existence que l'existence de chaque chose et aussi l'espace et le temps qui sont créés par les choses qui existent. L'art imite cette création....."
