Mud Hoodoo

Hoodoos in the southwest are either made of sandstone or mudstone. This one is definitely made of mud. It looks like a slender tower but from a side view you can see that it is really a long fin that has about three peaks with capstones on top.

This is the most dramatic view of the formation, a perspective that makes it look like a stand-alone hoodoo.

The fact that it is just a couple of hundred feet from the road is a bonus. Roadside, my kind of photography! Regardless, it makes me happy to sit under the stars and watch the heavens turn.

The formation was illuminated by a passing car that came by with the brights on, all I had to do was click the shutter in the right moment.
