Angeles Crest Highway safety sign at Clear Creek Junction in the Angeles National Forest
Remember, "on the Crest, safety is best!"
--
Clear Creek Junction is located at the intersection of the Angeles Crest Highway and the Angeles Forest Highway in the Angeles National Forest approximately nine miles north of La Canada, California.
Josephine Peak and Strawberry Peak rise above both roads and are great hiking destinations. Josephine used to have a fire lookout on top of it and still has a radio repeater and solar array so there is a gated fire road to its summit making for a very easy walk.
Strawberry Peak (named for its shape when looking at it from a distance) can be accessed from the west either via the easy Josephine Peak fire road or a more difficult hike up Colby Canyon. Both of these leave you with a difficult scramble up very loose rock on the western face of Strawberry, or you can take the easy way up from Red Box, located five miles east on the Angeles Crest Highway.
