Aerial Los Angeles - Cogswell Reservoir, Devils Canyon, and the Charlton Flat/Chilao area of the San Gabriel Mountains

This photo is looking north up the Devils Canyon drainage in the central San Gabriel Mountains. Devils Canyon starts just south of the Angeles Crest Highway more or less between Newcomb's Ranch and Three Points. It flows year round (though very light during even moderate rain years) and down into Cogswell Reservoir which is clear in the bottom-center of the photo. From there, the West Fork of the San Gabriel River flows east towards San Gabriel Canyon and Azuza where it turns from a nice, wilderness creek/river into a trash and diaper covered mess.

I had occasion to fly from Los Angeles to Grand Junction and was fortunate enough to have the best window seat I've ever had. We took off out over the water from LAX and then looped south and flew directly over the L.A. Basin and the San Gabriel Mountains before heading across the Mojave Desert, over Central Nevada and Southern Utah before touching down in GJ. All in all, it was a great 85 minutes (even though a one-hour delayed departure made me miss a tee time!)
