This is why its called "Red Box"; Angeles Crest Highway in the Angeles National Forest
Red Box Junction is named for the historic red box that firefighters used to use to cache tools. The box might not look historic because some jackass feels the need to destroy it (usually by smashing it with a truck) just about every year.
