Illegal Harvesting in Deschutes National Forest
by lightcap
Trees much larger and older than the Forest Services said would be harvested are being felled in the Deschutes National Forest. This in one of the most treasured recreational areas in the country: the legendary Phil's Trail area. Ponderosa pines up to 26" in diameter (almost 8 feet around!) have been observed cut and harvested while the Forest Service said only trees up to 18" diameters would be removed.
See my open letter to Shane Jeffries of the US Forest Service more more detail on the atrocities happening in Bend's backyard.
