Miley Tunnel
Looking into the Miley Tunnel from the old railway line next to the University of Central Lancashire. It runs from the Ship Inn (although the actual railway line begins by the Roeburn student halls) through into Deepdale and was opened in 1840.
Rumour has it the tunnel is haunted by a young girl who fell from a train carriage while passing through Deepdale Station. Locals who claim to have seen her call her the Grey Lady.
I've also read a rumour that two boys went into the tunnel kicking a football and came out of the tunnel kicking a corpse's head. An urban legend no doubt, but it shows the tunnel inspires a lot of stories in Preston.
I'm yet to actually wander into the tunnel, but one day I intend to. It's long been abandoned so there's no risk of a train entering it, but if I were in there on my own I'd probably be afraid of that happening!
