Abandoned store at Pumpville Station (Picture A Day July 15, 2009)
Trespassing inside the abandoned store at Pumpville, an hour northwest of Del Rio. When the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway was constructed (the second transcontinental railroad) in 1882, a small waystation named Samuels was born -- a few years later they dug some deep water wells, renaming the town to Pumpville. Because of its extreme remote location, Pumpville never garnered more than a few dozen hardy residents, and nowadays is little more than a ghost town - the only active building in town is the small church, faithfully serving ranchers from miles around.
