Rectangles with an aspect ratio of 16.5 : 12.05 cm will yield a model approximately 15 cm in diameter.

 

Regarding the reference points: Filled dots of the same color need to meet. The small rings indicate accurate points of intersection.

 

3, 5 or 6 different colors can be arranged in a symmetrical pattern. More info about the 6-coloring here.
