Checkerboard

Péter Budai has compiled interesting information about origami checkerboard designs, have a look here.

I decided to fold Max Hulme's design, as it is the most paper effective 4x4 board and has an elegant folding sequence.

The folding instructions / diagrams for the 8x8 pattern by David Dureisseix look amazingly simple at first glance. It is a considerable puzzle to fold the model though, as some steps are not shown. The result is rewarding, I especially like that during the folding process one gets to see the 2x2 and 4x4 pattern as well.

Both models are folded from 1 square sheet of paper. The left is made with tissue foil, it helps to keep it flat. My attempt to use the same paper for the 8x8 checkerboard failed, some small sink folds proved to be impossible.
