Archaeognatha (Lepismachilis y-signata) at around 13,5x magnification (slightly cropped).
Archaeognatha are supposed to be the oldest extant species within the insects. The compound eyes of Lepismachilis y-signata demonstrating the characteristic Y-like pigmentation of the eyes. The lateral ocelli are directly located under the compound eyes.
