Misty Mitre
Before I took the image Serenity and was eaten alive by an army of sandflies, we did a cruise through Milford Sound which was spectacular, but as it hadn’t rained for three days (we were told that 5 days without rain is considered a drought in this region) there were no waterfalls rushing down the steep mountain slopes, as we have seen so often in William Patino’s work (if you don’t know him, I recommend you check out his work). However, despite the almost too good weather, there was a little mist around the most famous of all the mountains in this fjord, Mitre Peak, and so I tried to find a pleasing composition which wasn’t easy given that we were on a moving ship. Instead of waiting until it was fully visible, I pressed the shutter earlier such that it was partially obscured by the hill in the foreground which adds an additional layer that makes the image more interesting. I was really hoping that this mist would stay until we got back from the cruise, but by then it was completely gone, and even the few clouds disappeared the later it got. Nevertheless, I'm very pleased with this moody snapshot from our cruise and I hope you like it too!
