quiet little side street ("hello hello my friend")
The relative quiet of the alley my first hotel (Hotel Namaskar) in Paharganj was located at the end of became a welcome break from the rest of the neighborhood. It looked like all the other alleys branching off Main Bazaar, but eventually I learned to identify it by the smell at the entrance to the alley - which I eventually identified as coming from a pair of public urinals directly next to a food stall. Bon appetit!
There was (as you can see) internet for ten rupees in a couple locations on this sidestreet, and a couple decent and cheap food stalls (and how I never got sick is beyond me); I would sit on the steps of the hotel and drink tea (having not yet discovered my favorite drink - which would soon become an addiction - a mango juice brand called Slice), watching the people & scooter traffic as I melted in the heat.
