P. Boi (Stranger 4 of 100)
Stranger portrait at Camden Market in London for the 100 Strangers group.
I approached P. Boi as he was opening his shop and monitoring the leathers on display. He showed a wary uneasiness when I approached him, which surprised me. I had assumed he would be more brash or forward given his tattoos, but he was extremely reserved. He reminded me of me in a way, when I was much younger. In high school, despite the air of confidence, I was quite nervous around others, especially strangers. I'm almost positive I wouldn't have allowed anyone to take my picture in the street like he did.
P. Boi is a drummer and makes music with a band in town. He is originally from Nepal, but has been in London for 11 years and hasn't been home to visit his family or his country in all that time. When I asked what he'd most like to do if he could, without hesitation he said he wanted to return home to Nepal.
"I need to take some time on my own," he said. "I would definitely travel."
In the end, he gave me a gentle hand shake and wished me luck, which I wished to him in return.
