Baird's sandpiper
On our first day in Canada we visited Fort Rodd an old artillery site that is located at the entrance to Esquimalt harbour. As we were walking on the causeway to the lighthouse I heard a wader flying high up. I managed to spot it but only as it was flying away down the coast. A few minutes later I heard it and this time I spotted it flying towards me and followed it as it landed on some rocks not far away. I hurried over and was able to sneak up on it until only a small (deep!) stretch of water separated us.
