Ovipositing Grasshopper
Along the trails at Spring Green Preserve I encountered many grasshoppers, mostly of the yellow winged and red winged varieties. As I near them, generally they jump away. This one tried doing just that - except she couldn't get anywhere because she was tethered to the ground. At first I thought perhaps a tiger beetle larva had her, but upon further examination it was clear that the material connecting the grasshopper to the ground was indeed part of the grasshopper. I had no idea that their abdomens could get so... long!
