FCT-30b "Tyrfing"
For the 23rd Century Universe.
The 30b model of the "fast" line of conventional tanks was a favorite among tank pilots. (yes, pilots!) With their 865 megawatt, 25 caliber railgun that had a reliable rate of fire of 14 rounds per minute, they were absolutely devastating to the armored soldier caste of Arkanin. Unfortunately, they were likewise vulnerable to the frightening plasma weapons they possessed, and pilots would need to score several successful hits on Tarsin tanks to just pierce the armor. Another issue these tanks suffered from was similar to much of Earth's other technologies, and originated from the reclaimed fusion core engine; overheating. All the systems on the 30-someting models of the FCT were brilliantly efficient and reliable, but the heat created from the power source would always be a problem in some manifestation or another. (Unless you were on an sub-zero assignment, in which case these tanks made wonderful space heaters.) The B variant of the 30 models somewhat rectified an issue with the capacitors of the 30a, itself created to completely replace the drive train that had been used on the previous 27 models.
