Herschel Class - Battleship Pattern
Developed some time before the overthrow of the Othean Federation's homeworld, Herschel Battleships began deployment at the cusp of the war and served as a standard for the United Nations of Earth's navy long after the formation of the Tenth Realm of the Coalition of Planets.
Inclusion of at least two Herschel Classes within a subfleet seemed almost essential for every Admiral. The durability was superb whereas its payload was second only to the Missile Frigates fundamental to Earth's naval force. Armaments typically included several highly mobile medium turret-batteries mounted throughout; a light, long range point defense battery mounted aft; between 50 to 80 FAY-S missiles, four Gravity Missiles, and several gravity mines; two rams to the fore; and sixteen heavy turret batteries. (Though the heavy batteries made the class dependent on larger crews and therefore less favorable to captains. More prestigious captains had the privilege of removing them along with associated rounds and crew from their ships to make room for many more FAY-S missiles.)
