A practical guide to suicide

This piece is very self-explanatory it is "A practical guide to suicide". Each image shows an action that is associated with a short list of instructions and "what you will need" tips. The idea was to use imagery that wasn't cliché, for example the "cutting". The first idea that crossed my mind was to have a razor blade with blood all over the place, but this looked far too over the top. Having said that, the red did break up the dark colours of the imagery. So the photos were re-taken with the model wearing red lipstick and red nails. The order the images are placed in offers a contrast between the colours, one has an element of red, then the next will not, the following photo has red. This pattern offers unity between the elements in a sort of pattern. The inspiration for this piece came mostly from personal experience. When I was growing up I went through a depressed phase as I searched for who I was and I succeeded many times in hurting myself both physically and mentally. This piece is a cynical development that came from a cynical sarcastic thought that crossed my mind during a self harm moment, the thought being "if only there were instructions to doing it right". This thought progressed in my mind and, although I never developed the idea on paper, (mostly because I was scared to tell people what was going on in my mind) it constantly developed in my head. After around six months of contemplating this idea, I finally decided to make it a reality.
