Joel Brown's Journey
Joel Brown, 16, of Mason, waits in a hospital room during a routine appointment at Cincinnati Children's Hospital on June 13. Joel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on June 11, 2008, underwent intense treatment and chemotherapy, and then relapsed in October 2010. After a week of total body irradiation and chemo to kill off Joel's bone marrow, his sister's cells were harvested, processed and infused into Joel during a bone marrow transplant on February 1.
