Joel Brown's Journey
Joel Brown, 16, of Mason, shows off his "My sister is my hero" t-shirt before receiving her bone marrow during a transplant on February 1. All three of Joel's siblings and his parents were tested and Alli was a perfect match. Joel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on June 11, 2008, underwent intense treatment and chemotherapy, and then relapsed in October 2010. After a week of total body irradiation and chemo to kill off Joel's bone marrow, his sister's cells were harvested, processed and infused into Joel during a bone marrow transplant on February 1. To this day Joel continues to recover nicely. Provided/ Laura Brown
