Joel Brown's Journey

Joel Brown, 16, of Mason, undergoes radiation therapy, on January 17, killing off his immune system and preparing him for his bone marrow transplant he will soon receive from his sister, Alli. All three of Joel's siblings and his parents were tested and Alli was a perfect match. Joel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on June 11, 2008, underwent intense treatment and chemotherapy, and then relapsed in October 2010. After a week of total body irradiation and chemo to kill off Joel's bone marrow, his sister's cells were harvested, processed and infused into Joel during a bone marrow transplant on February 1. To this day Joel continues to recover nicely. Provided/ Laura Brown
