Joel Brown's Journey
Joel Brown, 16, of Mason, laughs as he talks with his doctor, Kasiani Myers, during a routine appointment on June 13. Joel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on June 11, 2008, underwent intense treatment and chemotherapy, and then relapsed in October 2010. After a week of total body irradiation and chemo to kill off Joel's bone marrow, his sister's cells were harvested, processed and infused into Joel during a bone marrow transplant on February 1. To this day Joel continues to recover nicely. The Enquirer/Amanda Davidson
