Another view of the flowering head of an elderberry plant, showing the flowers better. As you can see, there are a lot of them! The plant was at least a couple of meters/yards tall, and the flowering head was about the size of a dinner plate.
The Wikipedia tells me that elderberry flowers, and the fruit, are eaten by some people, but the fruit, or juice, should be cooked first, as the uncooked material can be toxic.
