Ancient Quiver Tree Trunk

The trunk of one of the many ancient Quiver Trees (Aloe dichotoma) in the "Quiver Tree Forest" at Niewoudsville, Northern Cape, South Africa (October 2006).

Aloe dichotoma trees are called Quiver trees because the Koi San Bushman of the Kalahari Dessert hollowed out the tree trunks to keep their arrows in.

Best viewed LARGE.
