Resting Pied-billed Grebe, Feet Up

Podilymbus podiceps,

Morro Bay State Park, Morro Bay, CA

 

I didn't know they do this. As I watched this grebe resting, its feet were up out of the water near its wings. After a while, I saw it slowly move them back and down into the water and then swim away.
