Eyelashes are like buses

Until recently, I’d never seen these characters before, they are only 4-5mm in diameter, and now I’ve got a whole squadron of them. They look like something you’d find at the bottom of a rockpool whilst beachcombing, but they are actually fungi. Eyelash pixie cup, Molly eye-winker or more grandly Scutellinia scutellata. They’re found in clusters on damp rotting wood (I must get an extractor fan in the bathroom). They are of questionable edibility so it really would be a Desperate Breakfast to have these with your full *.

So the next time you see some eyelashes fluttering at you in the undergrowth, don’t get too excited, it’ll just be Molly.

Love these guys
