Flamborough Head Sunrise

As I left York at 3am conditions weren't good, a thick blanket of cloud shrouded North Yorkshire and intermittent rain showers left the roads greasy after the dry spell. I wasn't too hopeful but ventured onwards to Flamborough, I had plans for another shot if the weather didn't lift.

Gingerly climbing down the steep and eroded steps at 4.30am I still wasn't sure if the weather would lift. Then, as we approached sunrise (about 5am at this time of year) I was in luck, the clouds broke and a beautiful, but subtle, sunrise lasted for but a few minutes. I worked quickly, getting this shot as the tide rose towards me and my equipment before scrambling back up the cliffs for some other compositions.

By 5.15am the cloud had come back in and the rain came. I made my way back to York glad that I'd taken the gamble and that it had paid off.
