RegiStax, AviStack comparison
Well, I finally got to try out AviStack (the latest release can handle 16-bit images), and here's a quick comparison using the default settings. Wavelet sharpening was done in RegiStax to ensure consistency, and the post-processing steps in Photoshop were identical.
The differences between the centre crops near the terminator are virtually imperceptible (at least to my eyes), but when you move out towards the limb (where RegiStax was unable to use any alignment points due to the lack of high-contrast features), the AviStack version becomes noticeably sharper. This is best seen on the large version. It's a subtle improvement, but it's a good start (and it's faster).
The full-size version is available here.
It'll be interesting to see how the next release of RegiStax shapes up.
