Rila Monastery at night, Bulgaria. We spent the night in the monastery, enjoying the quiet, only the constant sound of the water flowing from the fountains in the inner yard below. We walked around in the hallways with my wife before going to sleep. We visited this beautiful place in August 2015, during our family road trip to the Balkans.

A 10. században alapított híres kolostort immár másodjára 2015. augusztusában kerestük fel, ezúttal családostul, két autóval, és most itt is aludtunk, egy bolgár barátunk telefonos közvetítésével foglalva le a szállást (én ugyanis nem találtam telefonnál az angolul beszélő szerzetest). Éjszaka még lefekvés előtt körbesétáltunk a folyosókon, több emeleten is, élveztük a csendet és a hangulatot - csak a lenti kutakból folyó víz csobogása hallatszott...
The Monastery of Saint Ivan of Rila, better known as the Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It is situated in the southwestern Rila Mountains, in the deep valley of the Rilska River at an elevation of 1,147 m above sea level, inside of Rila Monastery Nature Park. The monastery is named after its founder, the hermit Ivan of Rila (876 - 946 AD). Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments and is a key tourist attraction for both Bulgaria and Southern Europe.
