Last night's sunset in San Luis Obispo, CA. I've never tonemapped a long exposure before (and I can't remember the last time I've done that on a single RAW) but thought I'd give it a shot here. The newest version of Photomatix does a pretty decent job, but I still don't see running back for more anytime too soon. Super long exposures always add a bit of noise--add tonemapping to that and most of post becomes about noise reduction (at least on this image, which is still pretty darn noisy) which I really don't like. Just like everyone else I like the creative part of post a lot more than the tedious corrections...so don't expect too many of these from me. Having said that I'm still pretty excited about the end result.
75 second exposure
Thanks for looking!
