Mark D. Martin India
CHURCH_SMALL_3
St. Paul's Church was consecrated in 4th January 1857 as a Army Garisson church by the British Army stationed in India. The Church has a seating capacity for 1700 parishers and was open to civilians also.
During the India-Pakistan War of 1965, Pakistan air Force Martin B-57 Canberra's were on a mission to bomb ambala. the 2 squadern's mistook the church to be the townsquare and bombed it repeatedly.
While the world condemed this incident, in reality, the church actually saved the lives of atleast 3000 people as it became the primary target in the bombings.
till this date, service is held in this church every sunday as it did for the past 150 years.
There are more shots in my set of this fine church which was built in gothic styling, please check a few pages back for them.
Special thanks to SuperZag for the added bits of information and research.
