Outback terminal

At the end of September rail freight operator Aurizon commenced a regular 500km intermodal service between Gillman Terminal (Port Adelaide) and Pimba to service client BHP's mining operations in the north of South Australia.

 

Around 1.3 million tonnes per annum will be carried by five weekly return trains serving BHP’s activities at Olympic Dam, Carrapateena and Prominent Hill mine sites.

 

On Saturday 13 December 2025, Aurizon locos GWA008/ ACD6069 have just backed their 600m long consist into the outback transhipment terminal at Pimba, Aurizon will be spending another $40 million over the next year or so to expand the terminal.
