Scouting, Spying and other Sly things...
Built for the GCX for the LoR.
Mark of Falworth had mustered the biggest fighting force he had ever led to battle. If the world was going to war again, he would be able to influence the outcome.
Still following the orders of the Prince Jarius, he encamped very near the border of Loreos and Lenfald. He had also requested the assistance of the Areani to track enemy movement on the other side.
One of the Areani sent to help Mark was a personal friend of his. Acelerar had journeyed with Mark when he fled from the Queen into exile years ago.
"Greetings Acelerar! So good to see you again old chap! Looks like you're doing well in the order!"
"Thank you, Mark! My superiors are very kind to me. I am on my way to becoming part of the council!"
"Glad to hear it! Now, down to business. What is happening on the other side?"
During this conversation a Neova Areani walked unnoticed into the area next to them.
Acelerar gestured to the knight/assassin in dark green.
"I think I shall defer to my commander for the description of the other side."
Mark hadn't even noticed him, so quiet were his movements.
"Oh, Yes! Greetings, Sir! What news from the other side?"
The deep baritone voice of the Neova was somewhat intimidating even though they fought for the same side.
"The Inhabitants on the other side seem slightly distracted and disorganized. No doubt due to their newfound "independence". There are some gathered forces, mostly consisting of militia. Nothing you couldn't handle easily, but a strong offensive might be just what they need to rally in strength, just as they did so many years back."
Mark rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"Hmm. I doubt a repeat of the War of Roawian Succession would be beneficial to either side."
Acelerar laughed.
"Well, I doubt you could be any less popular across the line!"
"Haha! Indeed. I think that I shall bide my time and wait for an opportunity, instead of forcing the issue like last time. Jarius would have me beheaded should I start another war!"
The Neova seemed to tighten up at the last words of Mark.
"It is disheartening to hear of your falling out."
Mark's pleasant attitude disappeared.
"Yes, I haven't been as reliable as I could be, and Jarius didn't need to disown me like that. Maybe things will be amended, maybe they won't..."
As serious as the Neova had been before he now seemed doubly grave.
"On behalf of the Order, I say that whatever happens, YOU have the support of the Areani in whatever you should choose to accomplish..."
Mark was rather surprised by by such a statement. However, he didn't show the slightest appearance of it.
"I thank you, Sir. Now back to the task at hand. I want to know what is behind every tree in this county by dawn tomorrow."
The two Areani bowed and left
and Mark was left alone.
Which was good. He had a lot to think about.
To Be Continued!
