The Reality of Cats
4.19.14: I just heard today on Animal Planet that when two cats mate, it can lead to the creation of 80 million cats over 10 years. So fix your cats!
I have been exposed to and "lived with" cats for my entire adult life. The gallery I have created here is the part of it that I managed to capture. I seem to have a tremendous rapport with cats both directly and through my camera work. If you want to either purchase shots I have here, or have a specific project in mind you'd like to hire me for, please let me know! There is much to document here, so I will be adding many more photos over the coming days (and weeks)! This collection will depict "the reality" of cats. They share much with their various wild and bigger cousins. If you permit them, they develop the SAME instincts! Virtually all the cats here were brought up in the outdoors (and live/d in a barn for shelter and food). This is better than anything on Animal Planet about cats (not the large variety, but the smaller, "domesticated" variety that is) because it's the real deal and not "manufactured" or "staged"!
One thing I hope everyone takes away from viewing this photo series, is the importance of getting your cat(s) fixed. Otherwise, things get out of control. Your expenses get out of control, and your heart gets completely crushed in the process.
I had no intention of making a photo-recorded history of these cats. It began as an occasional photograph here, an occasional one there, first to hone my digital photography skills, and later as a stepping stone to my digital art. In the beginning, there were only a couple of cats anyway. It's when Calypso and Puss in Boots came on the scene, along with all the toms that tagged along, that the idea of a series came to mind. And deep down, I knew they all wouldn't remain with us indefinitely. I just didn't want to forget them! And if I had tried to tell anyone this story without "proof", I don't think they would have believed me!
A majority of the shots were taken with my Canon digital SLR, but there were times when I just didn't have it with me, so I used my Canon point and shoot. You probably will be able to tell the difference, but this was about capturing the story, the moments that would never come again. And that really is what happened. They no longer could be re-created with the same cast of characters. In the end, there was only one. And yes, she and a new pal are still around. Expect to see new material with her in the future.
