Samarkand

by marco ferrarin

Photography meant traveling around the world when I was young. Especially the poem of "Tamerlane" composed by Edgar Allan Poe brought me as far as Samarkand.
I had passion to talk to people in their language, got on a clappedout cars to move around and even enjoyed an engine trouble.
In Samarkand I was invited to the wedding ceremony of Uzbek couple as an occasional cameraman.
But the purpose of this travel was to see how the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyám was recognized, who spent his youth here according to the "Samarkand" written by Amin Maalouf.
I was satisfied to read his works on the wall of the streets and people truly love them.

Look ‘round thee now on Samarcand,
Is she not queen of earth?
Her pride above all cities?
In her hand their destinies?

Edgar Allan Poe, “Tamerlane”.
