Swiftly in the air
Swifts are some of the fastest flying birds on the planet, reaching up to 110 km/h in horizontal or even upward flight. Fearless long-distance flyers, who seem to do about everything in the air, they winter in West Africa but can be seen here in Europe May through August. Unlike their appearance and behaviour might suggest they aren't swallows but form a separate order with the hummingbirds.
