Emerald Lake

One of the gems in the Canadian Rockies. The famous Burgess Shale, with the exceptionally well-preserved Cambrian fossil beds from 508 million years ago, which profoundly changed our ounderstanding of evolution, is located on the high sunlit ridge in the centre. According to Stephen Jay Gould, they form “the world’s most important animal fossils”.
