How the 'forget-me-knot' got it’s name
One day Mother Nature who created all the birds and trees and flowers was thinking to herself that maybe the world needed brightening up a bit and perhaps she should get round to doing some colouring in.
So she got some paints from Homebase; and painted the grass green, the sky blue; then she got out some little tester pots and started doing all the flowers lots of different colours.
She painted daffodils yellow, bluebells blue; tulips pink red and other colours; cornflowers blue; violets purple and roses red; all the flowers all the colours that you can see around you today.
When she finished she sat down in a deckchair with a coffee and a copy of hello magazine to admire her handywork; it was beautiful and all the pretty flowers really made her smile.
She started to relax but she heard tiny crying noises.
Mem me mem me….
She put her head to the ground where the sound seemed to be coming from and she heard
ME ME YOU FORGOT ME
And there were some tiny flowers that she had indeed forgotten to colour in; she felt sorry for them so she got out her prettiest pink paint; prettier than any of the other pinks she had used that day and also her handsomest blue; more handsome than any blue she had already used. And she spodged the pink and blue paint onto the tiny flowers. They looked fantastic. She thought they would be happy but she heard more crying
Nnnooo nnnmme
She put her head close to the ground
They were saying
NO NAME WE HAVE NO NAME
Mother Nature smiled, and said I shall call you ‘forget me knots’ so that you will never be forgotten again. And the flowers were happy and danced in the breeze and Mother Nature went back to her coffee and her magazine.
