winter blues

Took many shots of the frost designs on my window. Still cannot get it right. I even tried putting paper on the outside of the window which did not work. Difficult to focus on the frost when my camera wants to focus on the trees. Tried manual focus with disasterous results. Anyone have suggestions on how to photograph these amazing ice crystal formations?
