all that's left of you

What the Ocean Said

Said crooked place, beat down earth and reckless sky

I've got aspirations and inspirations

But more than that I've got desperation.

Said if you don't go to ground now

I'll evict you and let the North wind blow you

forever forward, pursued by a wordless muse.

Said this: said if you love too deep too blind too much

You'll have a hard time changing course mid-tide

when the shore floats up on the other side.

Said come, inch to this edge where the waves break

and blow and heave up with the force of the moon,

where we grow too soon accustomed to being saved,

and with no wings to fly or fins to swim

and a hundred thousand miles of depth to sink in,

try clinging to the man-made rock that crumbles,

try stumbling back when the tide pulls you under.

Said all that's left of you will blow like sea salt,

etching itself across the faces of those who come

to hear what the ocean said.
