three waterfalls for the price of one

...is what you'll receive if you make the trip down to visit the beautiful Lower Kentucky Falls. This waterfall takes about the same amount of time to reach as Proxy Falls, and is located, generally, along the same latitude in Oregon - in other words, head down to Eugene, and instead of taking 126 East towards Proxy, take 126 West... this will take you to the town of Mapleton. From there, you can follow the directions on the ever-useful Waterfalls of the Pacific Northwest database.

And I highly recommend you follow those directions very closely in order to make it to the trailhead. Once you start hiking, you'll pass Upper Kentucky Falls at 3/4 of a mile. At the end of two miles you'll do a double take - for just to the left of Lower Kentucky Falls (pictured) is another waterfall, North Fork Falls. You can actually fit both falls in the same viewfinder of a (wide angle) lens. It's crazy. So, I'm telling you - three for the price of one! And all beautiful falls. I'll be posting pictures of the other two in time.

Taken with my Nikon FM. The moss was a crazy shade of yellow-green... I've actually toned the color down a bit from the original scan as it looked surreal.
