Manet vs Rudolf Stingel

REAR WINDOW. GLIMPSES OF PRIVATE COLLECTIONS.

November 23 2016 - February 26 2017

From November 23 2016 to February 26 2017, UBS and Milan’s Galleria d’Arte Moderna will be hosting Rear Window. Glimpses of Private Collections.

Curated by Luca Massimo Barbero, this exhibition investigates the idea of private collectors by establishing a dialogue between artworks from different Italian contemporary art collections - the Panza di Biumo Collection and the Berlingieri collection - and the permanent oeuvres of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna. By weaving unusual connections between modern, contemporary and nineteenth century artists - from Christo, Dan Flavin, Joseph Kosuth, Giulio Paolini, Richard Serra to Giovanni Fattori, Francesco Hayez, Edouard Manet and Giorgio Morandi - the show draws together apparently fragmented events into one big narrative that defines the visitor’s “field of vision” and recalls the atmospheres of Hitchcock’s famous film “Rear Window”, from which the exhibit borrows its title.

These glimpses onto the realm of private collections fall into the framework of a renewed three-year partnership between bank and GAM, a honourable example of Private-Public collaboration through which UBS will be shouldering the Museum with a calendar of events meant to value and protect its collections and cultural heritage.
