Noir
That ^^^ means no flashy logos or daft graphics please!!
Like film noir, James Dean, 50's cool, riding knackered old Harleys, walking through wet streets in a rain coat, burlesque, retro clothing, Buicks, Porsche 550 Spyders and lots of smoking cigarettes...
Big thing these days, seen particularly often as a photographer, either through imitation or the desire to imitate, this idea of trying to play with the stuff from days gone by and add a new twist on things. And the thing is, you know some people try to achieve it, some people have it, some don't. Me? I'm about as cool as a five-bar heater in a sauna. In hell. In summer. But these guys?
These guys man, they just sit there, let me pick up the camera, and they just do it. They're just Very. Fucking. Cool.
One of the few occasions recently where I've struggled with a shoot. OK, I was ill at the time, but nevertheless, I struggled. I can see into people with a camera, I know how to use it, to look at people and show truths. But here with Eva and Logan, at home, on their turf, together (they're an awesome couple!) just being themselves, they threw these stylised looks and things at the camera, and the difficulty wasn't capturing them, but doing them justice.
I think, I might have just possibly scratched the surface. I'm happy with that for now...
(Strobist/flash info stuff: 2x 580 EXII's fired via Cybersyncs. One camera left above slightly and behind Eva, the other in front fired into Orbis ringlight.)
