Nacre--also known as 'mother of pearl' is organic and inorganic composite material produced by mollucs as inner shell layer-- which in turn makes up the outer coating of pearls.It is strong,resilient, iridescent. Nacre is found in most of the ancient lineages of Bivalvia group of shells, Gastropods, and Cephalopods.
