Named Ficus elastica, this tree produces a series of secondary roots from higher up its trunk and those are diverted/knotted in a planned way by the local people to build up the root bridge which generally takes around 15 years. It is said that these bridges are not built, they are grown. While other concrete bridges made by the engineers tend to weaken over time, these root bridges become stronger as time passes.
